The FCCA is now the Flinders Centre for Cancer Prevention and Control (FCCPC)

The Flinders Cancer Control Alliance (FCCA) was established in 2005 as an Area of Strategic Research Investment at Flinders University. It brought together around 70 Flinders-campus-based researchers and practitioners, with varied expertise, to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to the development of solutions for cancer prevention and control.

The FCCA’s research profile and partnerships have steadily grown. In the five years to 2006, FCCA researchers attracted over 110 grants for cancer and related research totaling around $39 million. This included $1 mill from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) in support of a program of cancer prevention research.

In mid-2008, the University formally established the Flinders Centre for Cancer Prevention and Control (FCCPC) to replace the FCCA, continue a strategic research focus on the control of cancer through prevention and early detection and further develop national and international partnerships.

The FCCPC’s vision is to reduce the impact and burden of cancer on the Australian community through excellence in cancer research and the translation of research into practice.

The FCCPC is also the research arm of the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC), an integrated cancer centre that focuses on innovative prevention strategies, clinical, biomedical and translational research and holisitic patient care. The FCIC is a joint venture between Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) and the FMC Foundation and will occupy a state-of-the-art building to be constructed adjacent to Flinders Medical Centre commencing in early 2009.
